Dear Colleagues and Friends:

Photo of PresidentCurrently, the Open TCI Initiative does not have a home within a recognized society. Various options have been proposed; these include the European Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia, UK Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia, the European Society of Anaesthesiology, World Society of Intravenous Anaesthesia, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the International Society of Anaesthetic Pharmacology, and the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation.

During the month of November 2008 the members of opentci.org discussed the preferred home society. The near unanimous vote was for WorldSIVA. As President of WorldSIVA (and a member of the Open TCI Initiative), I am delighted to accept the vote of the members of the Open TCI Initiative for WorldSIVA to become the home society. This will be formalized at the next World Congress of TIVA-TCI in Berlin, April 2009.

I would like to emphasize that the goals of the the Open TCI Initiative closely match two of the Aims of WorldSIVA; i.e., “to establish an international network for the exchange of information and expertise about intravenous anaesthesia” and “to improve intravenous anaesthesia delivery systems, including target controlled infusion (TCI) technology.”

Best wishes,

Quirino Piacevoli
President WorldSIVA
